JP Langbroek Campaigns for Carpark at Benowa

Surfers Paradise MP, JP Langbroek and Benowa residents are ramping up the pressure on the Palaszczuk Government to fund a much needed carpark at Benowa State High School.

Mr Langbroek said that the carpark is an important piece of infrastructure for the growing school, which has been struggling to cater for the influx of parents and provisional drivers who have resorted to parking in nearby residential areas.

"As the State Member, it is a priority to ensure that school zones and surrounding areas are safe," he said.

"Residents and the School Community have raised safety concerns that stem from a high volume of traffic in an area that is clearly not equipped for that kind of congestion.

"That’s why I have launched an online petition to garner support from the Department of Education to fund this carpark.

"I’m encouraging the community to get behind this campaign to ensure that parents and residents can be confident that the journey to and from school is safe."

Local resident, Tim Robinson, said the carpark would not only make the area safer, but it would ensure that he could continue to run his business from home.

"Living in the area, you can see that there are definitely safety issues that arise from heavy traffic," he said.

"Our street has become a carpark, and I know that many residents also struggle with the fact that their guests have difficulty finding somewhere to park their car.

"As a small business owner, it is difficult to run your business from home when you can’t guarantee that there will be a parking space near your property.

"A carpark would definitely help to make the area safe for the students, and more liveable for the residents".
