Langbroek welcomes AFL teams to enjoy the Gold Coast sun
15 May 2020 1:33 PMJohn-Paul LangbroekLNP Member for Surfers Paradise and Shadow Minister for Sport, John-Paul Langbroek, has welcomed the announcement that four AFL teams will be stationed on the Gold Coast in preparation for match resumption in June.
“Even before COVID-19, the Gold Coast has been a City that seized any opportunity to promote our fun and vibrant City, and this hasn’t changed,” he said.
“More than ever, it’s vital that we embrace opportunities to promote our city to the local and domestic market as we look to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.”
Mr Langbroek said the economic injection is vital at a time when the Gold Coast is looking to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
“The economic input is estimated at over $5 million which is much needed in our economy,” he said.
“The Gold Coast missed out on 22 major events due to COVID-19, so we’re keen to host AFL matches to kick our economy back into action.
“I’m encouraging all the players to support our local businesses, and where they can, assist them by posting about their experiences on social media.”
Mr Langbroek said he is also looking forward to the AFL 2020 competition.
“We hope the players enjoy the Gold Coast sun, before they’re beaten by the Gold Coast Suns,” he said.
