Strike confirmation a damning indictment on Palaszczuk

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said that news today the racing industry will officially strike on Saturday shows the contempt Annastacia Palaszczuk has for racing.

“The Premier has been mute on this and showed a total lack of leadership,” Ms Frecklington said.

“Why hasn’t the Premier personally intervened to sort the mess created by her Deputy Jackie Trad and Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe.

“This is a damning indictment on the Premier’s leadership and shows a government completely out of touch.”

LNP Shadow Racing Minister John-Paul Langbroek said reports of additional strikes on top of the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup were a tell-tale sign that the industry is suffering under a Labor Government that doesn’t understand the industry.
“These strikes aren’t something the industry takes lightly, in fact, it will cost the industry millions,” Mr Langbroek said.
“This is just more proof that the Labor Government’s refusal to reinvest some of the income from the Point of Consumption Tax into the industry will have a devastating impact on racing participants in Queensland.
“Currently, all the Palaszczuk Labor Government is offering to the industry is to pay off some debts and provide a one-off infrastructure fund, with absolutely nothing for the thoroughbreds.

“If the strikes go ahead on Saturday, heads should roll.”
